As an exchange student, I have tried a totally different school study style. The difference is big, even inside Sweden!
In China, the school is like a "compnay", all the students are like a union, usually schools would hold a lot of activities that need all the students gather together, and this happens almost at least once a week, so always you can find that in the same grade (it's more common) even two students don't know each other, they might still know which class they're in.But in Sweden, students are more separated, I always think that the school is just a place that provides classrooms, I seldom find the school ask all the students to attend the activities, or maybe because I have only been here for a short time.
And about the classes.
In Sweden, you can choose which class you want to attend, but in different cities they have some differences, I heard some students say in big cities such as Stockholm the classes are not so rich, like the city in my new city Trollhättan, you can study not only economics, media, nature science, but also like cooking, gardening, and my younger host sister even studies horse riding in a close city! I think this is quite good, the society needs people for different jobs, so I don't recommend the style in China, all the students in the same city or province if they enter senior high school, they study the same classes and take same tests, maybe the contents in different places are a little different, but I can sure we don't have so many choices like in Sweden, China is a country that "love" maths so much that the study is really hard, and every student can do maths from the other countries quite easily most times, but when we enter the certain grade, it depends on the cities, as an example Shanghai, we can choose different subjects when we enter the second semester in the second grade we would choose one subject from the six we learned, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Polity, History and Geography, but to tell the truth, Physics is the best choice as many key univerties in China prefer it and if you want to be a doctor which is quite a hot job in China then you can only study Physics! So that is really boring, as some small classes in Sweden like cooking, gardening and so on we also have, but I think no horse riding, however, in China these classes are not included in senior high schools, they are in the certain schools which if you go most Chinese will think you are not a good student, and to tell the truth, they might look down on you. So usually students would rather go to a very bad senior high school instead of that kind of school.
Then let's move on to the uniform part.
Many Swedish may feel very strange when you ask about the uniforms, this strange means that in Sweden, you hardly see any school that has uniforms, maybe that also leads to the feeling that makes me feel the school is more separated. At first I was so excited about it as uniforms are everywhere in China, I think if you ask a student whether there are any schools that has no uniforms they might think you are an alien! But most uniforms in China are too ugly for us, we always complain about that. When the totally opposite situation happens in Sweden, I also feel a little troubled, that means you have to pick up your own clothes, then if it's really unlucky, the students would like to bandwagon, that is the first mind that Chinese schools design uniforms for. When I talk with other friends from other countries that have uniforms we all think that maybe uniforms would be needed sometimes, but they really should be like Japan, uniforms are so beautiful that it's said even when people graduate from schools they still want to wear them. Schools should have uniforms for special days and sometimes when students are in a hurry that they can just wear uniform and don't need to worry whether they would be laughed at others.
I think Sweden is one of the easiest study style countries, no matter in Stockholm or in Trollhättan, it's always very little homework or even no homework! And we start schools and finish schools not the same time from different classes, usually the study time is not very long, and you have many space and time to develop your own interests, that really surprise me when I came here, in China, I think this one has shocked the whole world that the homework is all very difficult and so much, we don't even have enough time to sleep! It's so sad that I don't want to introduce more, otherwise you'll really be scaried.
And something interesting is that if you go to school in Sweden the government would give you money every month! When I told my Chinese friends about this they are all confused as Chinese schools need money, so we can always read news like some poor places the students can't go to school as they can't afford the expense, though the government in China has now announced that all the students have right to go to school to get education for 9 years for free (not include private schools, they're very expensive, but most are very good so the parents want to send their children there, but when it's time to senior high school, the public schools are better, though they need money then, they're really cheap compare to private schools), big cities can do it very well, like in Shanghai you can go to a public school totally free except the lunch money, the books the government would pay for that, so you can own them for free, but in Sweden, you can only borrow from school.
And lunch, it depends, but I think Swedish lunch is better than most Chinses schools, and more important, they are for free!
Notice!!!!!
1.Now I only think about these, if you are interested about you can tell me and then I can add in it.
2.I would try add "next topic" in every article next time, then maybe you can get to know more about or you can talk with me about that. Really hope I can introduce China and Sweden by my own viewing angle!
